Annual Report 2023
Keys Group is pleased to announce the publication of its Annual Report for 2023.
Sunnydale is a residential care home based in Shropshire, providing rehabilitation support for people with Mental Health Needs. The residential home supports up to 10 adults, offering a variety of supportive pathways, personalised to suit each person’s specific needs. We are focused on the strengths, interests and dreams of each person we support.
We are committed to ensuring that individuals receive the appropriate level of care and support tailored to their needs.
We utilise the Recovery Model, along with 1:1 key worker support, to monitor individuals’ progress. All our assessments are reviewed every four weeks, encouraging the service user to be involved in their care plan.
We work with individuals through self-development, empowering them to learn new skills and set goals to work towards while in our care. Our primary focus is to empower individuals, granting them greater independence and control over their lives. We encourage individuals to believe that the positive atmosphere within our home will enhance their quality of life and support them in reaching their full potential.
Sunnydale has seven large bedrooms on the ground floor, and three en suite bedrooms on the first-floor. There are also communal areas including kitchen, dining room, lounge and front/rear gardens.
Craven Arms is surrounded by a range of facilities, shops, and leisure centers. In the immediate vicinity, you’ll find essential amenities such as supermarkets, pharmacies, and local shops. For leisure and recreation, there are several options, including sports centers, parks, and green spaces where the people we support can enjoy outdoor activities. Additionally, Craven Arms often hosts community events and cultural gatherings, providing opportunities for social engagement and entertainment. The area’s accessibility to public transportation also makes it easy to explore nearby attractions and amenities.
Josh’s Journey to Independence
Josh joined Sunnydale in 2019 and struggled with alcohol and substance abuse while coping with a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia.
Upon arrival, Josh faced many challenges, but the team at Sunnydale was determined to support him on his path to recovery. Monthly 1:1 reviews with a key worker helped assess his progress, and a comprehensive relapse program with clear signs and triggers allowed staff to redirect him whenever needed.
Josh’s growth and development transformation was a collaborative effort. Regular Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings allowed his care and support team to devise the best strategies. An enablement plan was crafted to foster his independence, focusing on acquiring daily living skills, cooking proficiency, exploring work opportunities, and receiving guidance on budgeting and financial management.
As days turned into months, Josh’s perseverance and hard work started yielding results. He demonstrated incredible determination and dedication. The team at Sunnydale was elated to witness his progress and accomplishments. They felt immense pride in seeing him work relentlessly to achieve his goals.
However, amidst the jubilation, there was a mixture of emotions as Josh’s journey was about to take a new turn. On the 20th of February 2023, Josh moved out of Sunnydale and into his very own flat in the community. It was a significant step towards independence, but he admitted feeling nervous. Sunnydale had become a second home, and he had grown to rely on the support and care provided there. Nevertheless, he voiced his readiness for the new chapter in his life.
Josh, who was 31 years old when he arrived at Sunnydale, was almost 35 when he moved on. Despite the uncertainties that lay ahead, he knew he had made substantial progress and was ready for his next adventure.
The team at Sunnydale bid Josh a fond farewell with mixed emotions. They are so proud of his accomplishments and the growth he had shown during his time with them. They were also sad to see him go, but they knew this was a testament to his resilience and hard work. Josh’s journey to independence was an inspiration to all, proving that with dedication and support, anything is possible.

“I just wanted to say something about Sunnydale. I first came to Sunnydale earlier this year (9th February), straight from the medical hospital. I was in a really dark place. When I first came to Sunnydale, everyone including the residents welcomed me with open arms. The staff there were amazing, they also tried their very best with me. They even went above and beyond for me and the other residents there. The care and the empathy they showed toward me was weird as I haven’t had anyone stick by me throughout my lifetime and they didn’t judge you at all. They all have been brilliant and they stood by me and helped me when I was going through a bad period of time. They all made me laugh and smile. Their patience with me has meant that I’m feeling more stronger, and more hopeful with my recovery.
I wouldn’t be living independently on my own in my new bungalow right now without the support I got from the staff at Sunnydale.
Sunnydale – You all have been fantastic every step of the way, so keep on being you with all the great work you all doing. Accomplish – You have a great bunch of staff there and the loveliest people in your services.” – Katie, a person supported at Sunnydale between February-October 2023
