Glebe Road introduce new interview panel
Glebe Road is a residential service supporting people with mental health needs as they move towards supported living. Supporting six adults, Manager Helen Court is passionate about co-production.
When she recently needed to appoint a new Shift Leader, she invited people supported at the service, in Nuneaton, to be involved in the interviews for the three internal candidates so their voices could be clearly heard in the decision making process.
Siobhan* is one of the people supported at Glebe Road and she volunteered to be part of the interview panel. The team worked with Siobhan in advance of the interviews and she developed her own question.
Helen said: “Since Siobhan has been supported at Glebe Road she has come a long way and made lots of progress. Before the interview, we shared the questions which we were going to ask and Siobhan developed her own which was all she said she wanted to ask.
“But once the interviews started, she really grew in confidence and asked about 75% of the questions in the first interview and was asking just about all of them at the end of the third interview. At the end of the process, Siobhan gave excellent and very helpful feedback and that, along with a strict scoring of each candidate, helped us choose the successful candidate.”
Siobhan said: “I was really nervous and actually dreading it. I felt like I was going to end up doing something wrong. Everyone was really friendly and I had my prepared question which was to ask how would the shift leaders fairly allocate time for people to be supported to do the activities they want to between all of the people who are supported here.
“I was enjoying towards the end and it was really hard to choose.”
The successful candidate was Adriana Marron who said: “I think it was a real positive having Siobhan on the interview panel as she brought a very important perspective.”
