Annual Report 2023
Keys Group is pleased to announce the publication of its Annual Report for 2023.
In a journey that highlights the power of determination and support, Phil, a person we support at Accomplish’s Lyndale service, has achieved a milestone – stepping out into the community after 12 years. Phil’s incredible accomplishments highlight the vital role that both positive behaviour support and his own tenacity played in improving his independence.
Lyndale, an Accomplish residential home that specialises in supporting people with Learning Disabilities, Acquired Brain Injuries, and Mental Health Needs, became Phil’s home nine years ago. Living with Paranoid Schizophrenia and high-functioning anxiety, Phil’s aversion to crowded places and community settings was palpable. But he was not alone in this journey.
The Lyndale support team embarked on a mission, guiding Phil through a series of gradual steps to combat his anxieties. Beginning with walks in quiet open fields, progressing to local churches, and venturing out to the local store during quieter hours, Phil’s courage grew with every small triumph.
Phil’s own determination, however, was the true driving force behind his progress. His willingness to confront his fears head-on and embrace change was instrumental. With each day’s efforts, he discovered that positive experiences could replace negative thoughts, a realisation that came from a positive behaviour journaling that was introduced to Phil by the support team at Lyndale. This practice allows Phil to reshape his mindset, setting him on a path towards optimism and increased independence and happiness.
The Lyndale team’s support extended far beyond the confines of their service. They facilitated Phil’s reconnection with his family and collaborated with his psychiatrist to introduce mood-enhancing strategies, boosting his self-assurance and readiness for the outside world.
Phil’s independence progression has been awe-inspiring. From shying away from outdoor spaces, he has now, with the support of the team at Lyndale, built up
his confidence and has been out into his community and recently went on a walk through the local cathedral and sat down in a coffee shop, something that he wouldn’t have done previously. Recently he even bumped into an old friend out in the local town and went for a coffee with them – showing huge strides in his journey.
Phil’s story echoes as a testament to the combined power of human and compassionate assistance, and as he looks ahead, he has set his next active support goal as embarking on a holiday, something the team at Lyndale will continue to support and help facilitate for Phil.
Emma Bevan, Service Manager at Lyndale, said: “The sky is the limit now with Phil. Now he’s achieved these milestones, he is passionate about continuing to test himself and enjoying his life by trying new things and going to new places.
“We are immensely proud of Phil for all his hard work and look forward to supporting him with his next active support goal of going on his first holiday for a very long time. Phil is inspiring, and it’s been great to see him grow and supporting him in doing so.”
When asked about how his recent achievements have made him feel, Phil said: “’I am so happy here. I’ve done really well and I hope I am well enough to go on holiday.”
