Evergreen

About Us

Evergreen is a residential service located in the Moseley neighbourhood of South Birmingham, offering specialised care to adults with complex additional support needs. Our amazing home enables individuals who are living with Acquired Brain Injuries, Mental Health Needs, or Vascular Dementia.

Our Approach

At Evergreen, we offer dedicated support and care to individuals. Our commitment lies in maintaining an optimal staff-to-person ratio, ensuring ample time and encouragement for each individual to foster their independence and achieve their personal goals. Our approach revolves around personalised support plans tailored to individual abilities, encompassing risk management strategies that promote skill development while ensuring the safe involvement of individuals in their chosen tasks, without undue limitations.

We implement a therapeutic method involving a structured follow-up guide co-developed between the individual and our staff. This method facilitates effective progress monitoring in specific areas of focus. Our staff undergo comprehensive mandatory training, complemented by our bespoke service-specific training. This specialised training is designed to align with
the unique needs of the individuals we support, equipping our team with the best practices to cater to their requirements effectively.

Accommodation & Location

At Evergreen, we offer eight bedrooms, six of which feature en-suite facilities. Additionally, we provide a communal lounge and a well-utilised conservatory primarily used for dining and various activities. Our facilities include a downstairs bathroom equipped with a bath chair to assist individuals, alongside a separate shower unit.

Adjacent to the conservatory, there’s a delightful patio area offering an ideal spot to bask in the sunshine and enjoy our garden. A designated smoking shelter is situated
here for those who smoke. For moments of relaxation, we’ve created a serene section in the garden featuring a bench swing where individuals can unwind. In our kitchen, we’ve ensured accessibility with a lowered work surface, accommodating individuals who prefer or require seating while engaging in food preparation.

Evergreen in Moseley offers convenient access to vibrant Moseley village, serene Cannon Hill Park, and nearby transport links to the city centre, Hall Green, and Shirley. Our location is close to amenities such as a city farm in Balsall Heath and the Edgbaston Cricket Stadium. The people we support benefit from nearby support services like the Headway Day Centre and a work preparation centre. Within walking distance, the people we support can explore the historic Moseley Bog, a cherished spot by JRR Tolkien, and the popular Sarehole Mill, offering attractions for all.

Evergreen’s EPIC Vision

At Evergreen, we support eight individuals, powered by our core organisational values: Excellence, Passion, Integrity, and Caring. Our team, deeply knowledgeable
and well trained, is the backbone of our mission. They’re dedicated to fostering an environment where each individual can flourish. Empowerment through skill development remains our cornerstone. We believe in enriching lives by nurturing talents and enabling every person we support to embrace life to the fullest. Within our tight-knit community, every voice is valued.

Collaboration on daily tasks fosters shared responsibility and a sense of belonging. We’re committed to encouraging active participation. From therapeutic activities like
music groups and massages to outings such as dining and cinema trips, we ensure a well-rounded experience. Themed events celebrating various cultures amplify our
collective learning and joy.

At Evergreen, our focus isn’t just on the here and now; we’re committed to shaping an empowering future. We envision a continuation of our high standard of care, enabling individuals to thrive and pursue their aspirations. Living life to the fullest is our mantra. We champion and encourage every person we support to seize every opportunity, nurturing a life brimming with possibilities.

Our support workers are delighted by the positive impact seen in participants. Individuals engaging in these activities showcase increased energy levels, improved mood, and enhanced physical mobility. These fitness sessions exemplify Evergreen’s dedication to providing diverse and meaningful activities promoting health and wellbeing. Vicki Morris, Evergreen’s

Triumphant Outings: Celebrating Achievements at Evergreen

Claire* and John* people we support at Evergreen, recently explored Birmingham’s Sea Life Centre. This outing marked a notable achievement for both. For Claire, who finds unfamiliar settings challenging, this visit triggered cherished memories from a past trip to a Sea Life Centre in Florida. It was a success in overcoming her apprehensions.

John managing Huntington’s Disease, typically avoids external engagements. His participation in this outing was a significant breakthrough. At Evergreen, we applaud
these personal victories and tailor experiences to celebrate each individual’s achievements.

Evergreen’s Wish Tree: Fulfilling Dreams, Creating Memories

The Wish Tree initiative was established to empower individuals supported at Evergreen to express their desires and dreams about what they want to do. Through the Wish Tree, they share their wishes, and our dedicated staff team endeavors to turn those dreams into reality. Documenting these granted wishes with photographs, the team create individual files, ensuring everyone can fondly reminisce about their fulfilled wishes.

About Our Manager

Get to know Vicki Morris, Service Manager at Evergreen

“I went to college after school and studied health and social care. During this course, I volunteered for Holidays for the Disabled. I met many amazing people with various disabilities and across different age groups, all sharing the common goal of enjoying a holiday. It was then I realised that this was the right path for me. I felt privileged to provide the necessary support, witnessing the joy it brought. Following this, I pursued my HNC while working in a nursing home for older people. Although rewarding, the experience felt restrictive, leading me to seek a smaller, more impactful service. That’s when I discovered the company I work for now. It’s been 26 years, and my passion for making a difference has allowed me to progress in my career,
touching the lives of many individuals along the way.”
