Keys Group is pleased to announce the publication of its Annual Report for 2023.
Active Alistair – An Insight into How Fitness Supports People with Dementia.
The people we support at Accomplish all face their own challenges and are encouraged by staff to live their lives to the best potential and help them with any struggles they face along the way. We explore how one of the people we support has flourished with Accomplish despite significant difficulties.
Alistair, a person we support at Accomplish’s Orchard View service in Northampton, arrived on Christmas Day 2023. Due to his diagnosis of Dementia, he faced significant challenges managing daily tasks and required full support to ensure his wellbeing.
Since arriving at Orchard View, Alistair has been constantly encouraged to participate in activities he was once told he could no longer do. The team at Orchard View quickly recognised his inquisitive nature and past independence, and they set out to discover what he enjoyed most. After exploring the various activities, it became clear that with the guidance of staff members Kate and Josh, Alistair had developed a passion for going to the gym and staying active. This newfound love for fitness helped establish c a routine for Alistair. The staff created a personalised weekly schedule for him, making daily life more structured and manageable. With regular gym visits, Alistair began embracing new challenges, including exploring Durdle Door on day trips.
Samira Osman, Registered Manager at Orchard View, shared her thoughts on Alistair’s journey toward independence: “It is wonderful to see somebody rise above the expectations others have laid in front of them. Alistair may approach things differently but impresses us every day with his energy and how he thrives with his fitness.”
In addition to his personal achievements, Alistair was also supported by staff to participate in The Dementia 5K, raising both awareness and funds for the very condition he lives with. Both the team at Orchard View and Alistair’s family are incredibly proud of how he has maintained a healthy lifestyle and continues to defy expectations.
