Annual Report 2023
Keys Group is pleased to announce the publication of its Annual Report for 2023.
Alfie, who is autistic and has learning disabilities, regularly spends time in the local community where is he is supported by members of staff from his home, Hugglescote in Coalville, The home is a specialist residential home which supports adults with additional care needs and is part of Accomplish.
While walking close to his home and returning from an activity, Alfie spotted a neighbour in distress. The gentleman was in his house and was indicating through the glass that he needed assistance.
Alfie leapt into action and alerted the member of staff who was with him to the situation. The staff member had not spotted the man, and if it was not for Alfie’s quick thinking, he would not have received the speedy – and essential – medical attention that he needed.
An ambulance was called and the neighbour was taken to hospital where he was treated for his urgent medical condition.
Amy Sturgess, Manager at Hugglescote, said: “Alfie was just amazing, a real superhero. If he hadn’t have spotted the man, recognised that he needed help and alerted the staff member with him, it could have had a very different outcome.
“Alfie has made real progress since he came to live at Hugglescote back in 2018. He’s well-known in the local community as he’s out and about every day doing the things he enjoys.
“He can sometimes find this particular time of year a struggle, the decorations and noise of Christmas can be overwhelming for him and it’s difficult to avoid it – it’s on TV, it’s in shops, there’s Christmas everywhere.
“Last year we noticed he began to struggle as early as September, just knowing Christmas was on the horizon. This year – and I don’t want to jinx it – we’re just a few weeks away from Christmas and he’s doing great. He’s just more relaxed. We’re incredibly proud of him all round!”
