Accomplish Supports Alan To Move Nearer A Race Track

Kira, a person we support at Ty Arfryn, likes to be busy and she’s been putting her time to excellent use, learning new skills which are benefiting the whole service.
The 19-year-old wanted to support the health and safety team at the service and supported Mike in updating all of Ty Arfryn’s health and safety documents including risk assessments. As she loves to expand her knowledge and experience, she and Mike agreed that she should continue to help him on a regular basis.
Her work has been so valuable to the service that Kira has decided to learn even more new skills and is currently training to become a Fire Warden for Ty Arfryn and also completing fire awareness training.
Kira said: “I like to learn new things and like to keep busy. When I’m older I want to work in medicine and the skills I’m learning now will really help me. I really enjoy the health and safety work and it’s good because it helps me spot things which I think might be dangerous.
“I’m also in charge of the ‘grab bag’ which includes information for everyone who lives at Ty Arfryn about what we might need if there is an emergency and we have to leave the service.
“I’m really enjoying both the training and the health and safety role.”
Kim Slade, Manager at Ty Arfryn, said: “Kira is very modest; she’s doing an amazing job. It’s great for everyone that she is so involved, not only is it empowering for Kira, but it helps the staff team understand more about how our health and safety and fire safety policies and procedures work and how effective they are from the perspective of a person we support. Kira is doing an amazing job and her input is invaluable to us as a service.”
