Regional Manager Completes Triathlon for Charity
To raise money for good causes, some people decide to tackle a sporting challenge. But...
As the devastating conflict in Ukraine continues, the people we support at Accomplish have been doing their bit to help wherever they can.
People supported in Accomplish services in the South of England and Wales, along with the staff who work alongside them, made more than 100 shoeboxes filled with essential items for refugees fleeing the conflict. In an extra touch, the people we support also decorated their shoeboxes. A competition to name the best was won by a person supported at Cildewi House.
Setting off on a 1,200 mile journey, earlier this year Peter Chichanwala, Regional Manager for South Wales, took these shoeboxes to Poland where they were distributed at the World Central Kitchen and Community Hub in Wroclaw.
He and other volunteers unloaded not just the Accomplish shoeboxes but a further eight pallets of aid which had been collected in the UK for refugees.
The centre in Wroclaw supported more than 60,000 refugees in the first two weeks of the conflict alone and provides two hot meals a day, alongside essential items.
Peter said: “It’s important this conflict remains in people’s thoughts. The Accomplish team was delighted to support, and the people we support did a fantastic job of not only contributing to the shoeboxes, but to decorating them so beautifully too.
“It was a long trip to deliver them, but so very much worth it. We left on the Sunday morning and returned Monday – it was very humbling to see so many people dedicated to helping the Ukrainian refugees and they thanked everyone for our support and generosity.”
