Regional Manager Completes Triathlon for Charity

To raise money for good causes, some people decide to tackle a sporting challenge. But when raising money for Pets as Therapy, Shane Pocock, a Regional Manager at Accomplish Group, chose to take on three sports instead of one!

To raise money for this great cause Shane opted to compete in the Cardiff Olympic Triathlon which was held recently. The challenge saw him have to compete on land and in the water as he undertook a swim, cycle and run – all in the same day.

Pets as Therapy is Accomplish Group’s chosen charity of the year. PAT was founded in the UK in 1983 and it aims to enhance health and wellbeing in schools, hospices, care homes, hospitals and other settings through the visits of trusted volunteers with their behaviourally assessed animals. PAT has over 6,000 volunteers and all pets, though most commonly dogs and cats, undertake valuable work for those in need.

Throughout the year, people across Accomplish will be undertaking a range of challenges and holding fundraising events to raise money for the charity – including Shane. And what a challenge it was with a 1,500m swim in the waters of Cardiff Bay, 37km cycle and 9km run to tackle.

Shane said: “I decided to raise funds for this great cause as I’ve seen just how valuable the PAT service is across our residential and supported living services. I see regularly how much the people we support, and our colleagues, enjoy interacting with animals and how beneficial it is for their mental health and overall well-being.

“The triathlon was a great challenge but I’ve been delighted to raise more than £350 so far, with donations still coming in. I know that the money raised will be going to an excellent cause and that makes all the sore muscles more than worth it!”
