Annual Report 2023
Keys Group is pleased to announce the publication of its Annual Report for 2023.
About Us
Welcome to Woodlands, where we are dedicated to aiding individuals with Autism and Mental Health needs to lead fulfilling lives. Our tailored support focuses on developing effective coping techniques that bring tangible improvements to daily life. Prioritising person-centred care, we promote independence and address individual needs. With our outcomes-focused approach, we empower people to maintain autonomy and control over their lives.
Our Approach
At Woodlands, our approach to care is centred around supporting six residents in a warm, homely setting. Guided by the Recovery Star model, we prioritise holistic well-being by focusing on daily living skills, culinary proficiency, and community engagement, both supported and unsupported. Collaborating with external professionals, including psychologists, psychiatrists, and mental health teams, our paperwork is meticulously tailored to mental health support and progress.
We emphasise individuality by consistently encouraging independence, providing routine, and offering personalised care as needed. Rigorous risk assessments promote independence while regular reviews minimise potential risks. Mental health relapse plans provide additional support, demonstrating our commitment to tailored care. Woodlands’ philosophy is rooted in boosting confidence and empowering residents to lead lives on their terms, with unwavering support in areas where challenges may arise. Residents actively participate in their care plans and decision-making, placing them at the heart of our processes.
In our supportive community, residents experience a joyful environment prioritising emotional well-being, with personalised assistance readily available. An open-door policy encourages residents to reach out for anything they need. Strong relationships with residents and staff, along with collaborations with specialists like the Diabetic clinic and Cyber Spider, ensure a holistic and secure living experience.
Accommodation
Woodlands is dedicated to fostering independence. The spacious kitchen, featuring a large cooker and well-equipped facilities, encourages the people we support to cook their own meals, promoting autonomy.
Each person supported has designated cupboards and access to a large fridge freezer for personal food storage. On the ground floor, two communal lounge areas provide comfortable spaces for socialising, with one lounge featuring easy access to a covered smoking area and an adjacent large toilet. There is also one bedroom on the ground floor. The first floor offers four bedrooms, a communal bathroom and toilet, and a dedicated medication room. The second floor includes another bedroom and a staff sleep-in room. All bedrooms boast en-suite facilities, ensuring personal comfort and convenience.
Location
Woodlands enjoys a convenient location near Acocks Green village, offering easy access to numerous amenities within a short walking distance. The surrounding area boasts a variety of shops, eateries, and food places. Excellent transportation options include nearby bus stops with routes to the city centre, Acocks Green, Kings Heath, and various other areas. A bus stop conveniently located just over the road from the service ensures seamless connectivity. The nearest train station is approximately two miles away.
The people we support at Woodlands, who are predominantly independent, benefit from a sports centre with a swimming pool just a short walk away. In Acocks Green, there’s a bowling alley, pubs, restaurants, supermarkets like Morrisons and Aldi, pharmacies, clothing shops, and more. The home is situated near doctors’ surgeries, and within two miles, the people we support can find various food places such as KFC, McDonald’s, Tesco, and dessert shops. A college is also within a two-mile radius, while cinemas are located in nearby Solihull.
Ethos & Values
At Woodlands we embody the EPIC values of Excellence, Passion, Integrity, and Caring.
Our commitment to excellence drives us to achieve the highest standards of learning, development, and performance in all that we do.
Our passion for delivering the best outcomes for those in our care is evident in our ambitious and committed approach to care and support.
Our integrity and transparency in our work is reflected in our honest and transparent communication and sharing of results and learnings.
Our caring approach is centred on showing compassion and empathy, placing those in our care at the centre of all that we do, and always putting the people we support at the heart of all our actions.
At Woodlands, we are immensely proud of the progress and positive transformations achieved by individuals under our care. One person, supported by the court of protection due to vulnerabilities, including high-functioning Autism, initially faced complex challenges such as unsafe online behaviour and meeting strangers. Through diligent efforts and the implementation of security features on her phone, she has made significant strides, independently engaging with the community and starting college.
Another person supported at Woodlands, who struggled with self-neglect and lacked social and daily living skills, has shown remarkable improvement. Her antipsychotic medication was successfully stopped, and she is now preparing for independent living.
Additionally, a person supported with type 1 diabetes and schizophrenia, lacking understanding of his conditions, has enhanced social skills and engaged in crucial medical appointments, demonstrating significant progress and positive outcomes in his overall well-being. These achievements highlight Woodlands’ commitment to fostering personal growth and supporting people we support in their journey towards independence and improved quality of life.
